M&S broadens sustainable palm oil range
21/01/2011 (The Grocer) - Marks & Spencer has extended the use of sustainable palm oil in its products, marking the latest step in its Plan A initiative.
The retailer said the move meant it now offered the UK’s largest range of food products containing certified sustainable palm oil. The new products hit stores this month.
In 2009 M&S became the world’s first retailer to purchase GreenPalm certificates to cover its entire palm oil usage, part of a commitment to use only certified sustainable palm oil in all is products by 2015.
The latest products include biscuits, roasting potatoes and wedges.
“We know palm oil usage is something our customers are concerned about and we are totally committed to ensuring the palm oil used in M&S products is from sustainable sources,” said Plan A director Richard Gillies.
“We now have the UK’s widest selection of palm oil products, with a range of items for our customer to enjoy including cookies, oatcakes and roast potatoes.”
