13/10/2009 (ABC Rural) - A Queenslander is about to move to Papua New Guinea to lead a world-first irrigation project for the palm oil industry.

Today is Adrian van Boven's last day as General Manager of a Bundaberg macadamia plantation.

He established irrigation in macadamia orchards throughout the Wide Bay area, and now he's looking forward to using his skills in PNG.

"It's very, very exciting and it's going to be quite a challenge being able to get the water out of these raging PNG rivers and put them onto large-scale palm oil orchards."
