22/10/2008 (IRIS) - A division bench of the Kerala high court has supported the Union Government`s order banning the import of palm oil through the ports in Kerala.

The Bench comprising chief justice, H L Dattu and justice, A K Bashir dismissed a petition filed by a Kozhikode based firm, challenging a single bench verdict, which also supported the government order.

The court declined to intervene in the issue stating that the union government took the policy decision to ban the import of palm oil based on the recommendations of the state government.

The Kerala government had recommended a ban on palm oil imports to protect the interest of the state`s coconut growers.
