Malaysia to export crude palm oil to India
28/9/2005 (India Online) - Malaysia is considering is consideringhelping private palm oil players to set up refineries in India as tariffduty towards exports of crude palm oil to India is cheaper in comparisonto refined oils.
Speaking at MPOB International Palm Oil Congress (PIPOC) 2005, MalaysianMinister of pplantation Industries and Commodities, Y B Datuk Peter ChinFah Kui, said that, "Malaysian palm oils now merely constitute 40% of thetotal exports to India. As the Indian market has a tariff differential infavour of soyoils, thereby, making palm oils exports less profitable."
He further said that, "We have been unable to do much about it. While palmoils are cheaper as against soyoil globally, India’s duty tariffdifferential in favour of the latter makes imports (of the latter) cheaperand thereby holds a pivotal position in governing edible oil prices."
