Unilever introduces sustainable palm oil product
02/05/2008 (Malaysia Sun) - Unilever says that by 2015 it will only use palm oil made from sustainable sources and not from deforested ground.
The UK company uses palm oil in many of its products, particularly cosmetics and foodstuffs.
Many countries that grow palm oil plants destroy primeval forests to do so, an act that also harms their bio-diversity.
In some countries, the farming of palm oil is harming the bio-diversity in primeval forests .
Greenpeace has praised the declaration by Unilever, but says it will continue protests against the company if it doesn’t improve the situation before 2015.
