Bulgarian Vegetable Oil is the Most Expensive in Europe
24/01/2008 (News.bg) - Bulgarians pay for a liter of cooking oil as much as the Paris citizen pays, shows a research of local BTV correspondents in seven European capitals.
The cheapest vegetable oil could be bought in London. A liter costs 0,60 pounds or 1,70 BGN (0,80 EUR).
The price in a Paris supermarket is the same as in an ordinary food store in Bulgaria.
The vegetable oil in Moscow and Rome is cheaper, reported from regal.bg.
In Bulgaria's biggest chains the oil price increased with 0,80 BGN (0,40 EUR) for a period of 1 year and in the moment its price is up to 3-4 BGN (1,5-2 EUR).
Bulgarian oil producers don't agree that the prices are increased.
According to them Europe is producing cooking oil from cheaper raw material - rape or soya.
Bulgarians are used to the sunflower-seed oil, which is more expensive.
From the butter-men union are protesting against the huge fine (2 million BGN (1 million EUR) imposed by the Commission for competitiveness protection one week ago.
The commission believes that the oil producers had contracted a cartel agreement for increasing the prices so they can detain the sunflower purchase price.
