China develops palm oil to biodiesel technology
2/2/07 Shanghai. (INTERFAX-CHINA) - China has developed technology to transform palm oil to biodiesel, according to state news agency Xinhua.
The technology will require further development and support from the industry before it can be used commercially, Huang Fenghong, the main researcher of this technology from the Wuhan Oil Institution Chinese Academy of Agriculture Science told Interfax.
"The technology has been adopted by Cambodia, which has already set up a production line," said Huang. He added China hasn't established production lines for mass production yet, but China has a production
line of 2000 metric tons for research use.
The development will help support the domestic oil bearing crops sector which is under attach by cheap imports.
China import around 4 million metric tons of palm oil from eastern north countries each year.
