Indonesia assessing CPO supply for B60 biodiesel rollout in 2027

Oils & Fats International (09/09/2026) - Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry was assessing crude palm oil (CPO) supply and biodiesel capacity ahead of the country’s planned 60% palm oil- based biodiesel (B60) programme in 2027, according to an ANTARA News report quoting deputy minister Yuliot Tanjung.

During the government’s B50 launch earlier this year, President Prabowo Subianto had said B60 would be implemented in 2027, Tanjung said in Jakarta on 2 September.

The government now needed to consolidate upstream CPO supplies and the country’s fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) industry also needed to be expanded, Tanjung added.

An expanded FAME industry would support B60 implementation across both public service obligation (PSO) and non-PSO fuel mandates, he explained.

Eniya Listiani Dewi, the ministry’s director general for new, renewable energy and energy conservation, said FAME specifications for B60 also required further assessment.

While the latest FAME type was used for the B50 blend, authorities were considering adding 10% hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to the B60 blend, the 2 September report said.

With HVO costing about one-and-a-half to two times more than FAME, testing of the proposed blend was at an early stage, Dewi said.

The Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) had been asked to study FAME requirements for B60, with results targeted by December 2026, she added.

Dewi said researchers involved in developing the technology should determine the appropriate B60 blending ratio.
At the time of the report, the government had not disclosed a specific B60 blending ratio.
