New Straits Times (10/09/2026) - KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures fell for a third straight session on Thursday, pressured by weaker rival edible oils, though firmer crude oil prices capped the decline.

The benchmark palm oil contract for November delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid RM48, or 0.97 per cent, to RM4,918 (US$1,209.25) a metric ton in early trade.

Oil prices held firm after Brent crude breached US$100 a barrel, with traders bracing for deeper supply disruption as Iran and the United States launched their largest attacks on shipping since their six-month-old conflict began.

Stronger crude oil futures make palm a more attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.

Dalian's most-active soyoil contract fell 1.1 per cent, while its palm oil contract shed 1.28 per cent. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were down 0.31 per cent.

Palm oil tracks the price movements of rival edible oils, as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Board is expected to release its August demand and supply data later in the day.

Cargo surveyors are also due to release their palm oil export estimates for the September 1-10 period later in the day.

The ringgit, palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.02 per cent against the dollar, making the commodity slightly more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies.

Indonesia is aiming to exert greater influence over the prices of its top commodities in the early stage of operations at its planned new commodity exchange, the country's newly appointed chief regulator said, as Jakarta eyes becoming a global price maker.

Asian stocks slid on Thursday as the biggest wave of attacks on shipping in the widening war in the Middle East kept oil prices above US$100 a barrel, leaving investors nervous ahead of US inflation data that will influence monetary policy.
