12/02/2026 (Oils & Fats Magazine) - The Indonesian government plans to restrict palm oil waste exports – including used cooking oil (UCO) – to prioritise domestic use, according to a New Straits Times report quoting the country’s President Prabowo Subianto.

“I am banning the export of palm oil waste and used cooking oil … it must first serve the interests of the Indonesian people,” President Subianto was quoted as saying on 2 February – in the report of the same date – during the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the central and regional governments in Sentul, Bogor Regency, West Java.

The materials would be used to support the production of domestic biodiesel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other sectors, he added.

Prabowo said expanding palm-based energy development would help reduce Indonesia’s dependence on energy imports.

As well as aiming to achieve biodiesel self-sufficiency, Indonesia – the world’s leading palm oil producer – aimed to become one of the world’s largest SAF producers, he added.
