17/09/2025 (APK Inform) - In the coming years, vegetable oil consumption in Uzbekistan will grow significantly, and the structure of consumption will also change with an emphasis on less traditional oils. This forecast was voiced by Alisher Makhmudov, an expert on the agricultural market of the Central Asian region, at the international Asia Grains&Oils Conference in Tashkent 2025.

It is expected that by 2030, the consumption of palm oil and its fractions in Uzbekistan will increase 1.5 times - from 100.000 tons in 2025 to 150.000 tons, and by 2035 it will double - reaching 200.000 tons.

The growth dynamics for soybean and rapeseed oils, whose share in consumption is currently insignificant (only 2.000 and 3.000 tons respectively), will be even more notable. By 2030, their consumption will increase to 40.000 and 20.000 tons respectively, and by 2035 these figures will double (80.000 tons and 40.000 tons).

As for traditional sunflower oil, according to the expert’s forecast, its consumption will rise from 280.000 tons this year to 300.000 tons in 2030 and 320.000 tons in 2035.

At the same time, cottonseed oil in the country will become slightly less popular - its consumption will decrease from the current 185.000 tons to 170.000 tons by 2030 and 150.000 tons by 2035.

According to A. Makhmudov, there are currently 85 large oil and fat enterprises in Uzbekistan, with 8 more Uzbek-capital companies operating in Kazakhstan and 5 in Russia. In the expert’s opinion, the trend of launching processing enterprises with the participation of Uzbek businesses abroad will continue, while their number inside the country will decrease (by 2030 - down to 25). In five years, 4 more such enterprises are expected to open in Kazakhstan, and 5 more in Russia.

The expert also forecasts an increase in vegetable oil exports from Uzbekistan - if this figure amounted to around $22 million in 2024, it is expected to grow to $32 million this year.
