Indonesia Encourages Increased Palm Oil Exports to Chile
Radio Republik Indonesia (20/05/2025) - KBRN, Jakarta: Chile wants to export milk, cattle, and potatoes to Indonesia. Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman disclosed this after a meeting with Chilean Minister of Agriculture Esteban Valenzuela Van Treek in Jakarta, Monday (19/5/2025). He welcomed the proposal positively, but emphasized that evaluation of domestic production and needs remains a priority, especially for potatoes. On the other hand, according to the Minister, Indonesia is encouraging increased palm oil exports to the Chilean market as a form of mutually beneficial partnership.
“The most important thing is that we collaborate for mutual benefit. Oh, there's something interesting I almost forgot. About palm oil, we export palm oil, increase exports there. We want to increase the export volume of palm oil, they agreed, we immediately shook hands”, said Andi Amran.
Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman also explained that in the meeting, Indonesia and Chile agreed to exchange agricultural technology, especially water management. According to him, Chile has long experience in dealing with extreme drought for 14 years due to El Nino and is considered to have a strong and relevant water management system to be adopted in Indonesia.
"We will exchange information on technology, especially water management. It turns out that there has been a drought for 14 years, it is very dry and we will open ourselves to cooperation," said Amran Sulaiman.
This meeting also marked the strengthening of the strategic position of the two countries in the international cooperation platform. Chile expressed its full support for Indonesia's efforts to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
