03/06/2024 (Brownfield Ag News) - Corn for ethanol numbers were mixed in April.

The USDA says 416.92 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production during April 2024, a drop of 12% from March partially due to seasonal maintenance, but up 1% from April 2023.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1,756,396 tons, a decrease of 9% on the month, but an increase of 8% on the year.

Even with the month-to-month decline, corn for ethanol use remains on pace to meet or exceed USDA projections for the current marketing year.

The U.S. soybean crush fell during April.

The USDA says 178 million bushels of beans were crushed in April 2024, a little bit larger than expected, but down 26 million from March due to seasonal maintenance and 9 million lower than April 2023 because of tighter crush margins.

Soybean oil and meal stocks were also down on the month and the year.

The USDA’s updated corn for ethanol use and crush projections for the current marketing year are out June 12th.
