Fertiliser produced from palm oil waste
13/2/06 KUANTAN (The Star) - A subsidiary of LKPP Corporation Sdn Bhd, Dominion Media Sdn Bhd, has successfully produced a bio-organic fertiliser derived from palm oil waste.
The fertiliser is made with the use of latest technology and beneficial micro-organisms cultured locally.
The technology and micro-organisms are supplied by Malaysian Agri Hi-Tech Sdn Bhd (Myagri – a subsidiary of Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn Bhd) and Premier Golden Crops Technologies (PGCT).
LKPP Corporation is a member of the Pahang State Agricultural Development Corporation Group of Companies.
Dominion Media director Shamsuddin Mohd Nor said the fertiliser, Makmur Bio-Organic, was the result of seven years of research.
“It is a smart partnership between Dominion, PGCT and Myagri.
“PGCT is involved in the decomposition of palm oil waste into organic fertiliser and Myagri supplies the micro-organisms that complete the process of turning it into bio-organic fertiliser,” he said after the official launch of the fertiliser by Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Tan Aminuddin Ishak in Lepar here recently.
Also present was Dominion Media chairman Datuk Lau Lee.
Shamsuddin said the fertiliser enhanced palm oil yield from between six tonnes to eight tonnes per hectare to 12 tonnes.
“The fertiliser has been used in our 10ha estate in Gemuruh for about four years and its first harvest last year showed an increase in yields,” he said.
Myagri managing director Hayati Taib said the company’s priority was to provide the micro-organisms to Dominion Media and let the yield speak for itself.
“When industry players see the results, they will change their mindset and start using bio-organic fertiliser,” she said.
