MoU signed for oil palm expansion in Nagaland

09.01.2023 (Morung Express)  - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Nagaland, represented by the Director of Agriculture, Nagaland and Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) represented by CEO- Oil Palm Business, Godrej Agrovet Limited, Godrej One, Mumbai, Maharashtra today at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima.

The MoU was signed for the development and area expansion under oil palm cultivation and processing for Zone-I (Peren, Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland and Wokha districts) in the state of Nagaland under National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).

The MoU was signed in the presence of M Ben Yanthan, Director of Agriculture, Sougata Niyogi, CEO-Oil Palm Business (Godrej Agrovet Limited), Raju Prasad Choudhury, Advisor –OPP Northeast and senior officers of the department.

The CEO of GAVL was impressed by the existing infrastructure and potential of oil palm development in the state.

It is pertinent to mention that GAVL is the largest developer in oil palm business in India managing about 60,000 ha and 6 palm oil mills and the only company operating a mill in North East India since 2014.

Besides Nagaland, the company has also signed MoU for oil palm in the states of Mizoram, Assam, Manipur and Tripura.

The company has also agreed to buy the existing Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) from the existing plants from this year onwards on the special request made by the Director of Agriculture, Nagaland.
