INDONESIA EYES PALM OIL COUNTERTRADE WITH U.S.

JAKARTA, April 11 (Reuters) - Indonesia is eyeing the possibility ofshipping palm oil to the United States under a countertrade arrangement,Indonesian Trade and Industry Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Wednesday.Pandjaitan said Indonesia wanted to follow Malaysia, the world's numberone palm oil producer, which has shipped palm oil to the U.S. under acountertrade agreement.He said he approached the U.S. government to seek better access forpalm oil during a recent visit to Washington."We are planning to lobby the U.S. government through Mr Ross Perot. Weare planning to meet Mr Perot in June to discuss the matter," Pandjaitansaid, referring to the prominent billionaire and former U.S. presidentialcandidate.He did not say how Indonesia had come to choose Perot."We are eyeing opening a counter trade (arrangement), but it willdepend on the lobbying," the minister added.Indonesia is the world's second largest palm oil producer.
