13.11.2021 (www.nst.com.my) - KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government is committed to increasing the income of rural folks through modern agricultural activities

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the state government has been placing great emphasis on assisting those living in the remote areas, particularly to improve their income and wellbeing.
"Although the state government had done much in bringing basic infrastructural facilities and amenities to the peope, this socio- economic agenda is a grand necessity and top priority," he said.
"We want to help rural folks enjoy better income through modern farming and other agricultural activities. For this to happen, please continue to support the GPS government to allow it to rule the state again after the coming 12th state election.
"Our development plans, strategies and programmes should be allowed to proceed uninterrupted, which will benefit the people in Sarawak," he said.
Uggah was speaking at an Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) at Rh. Remi Ambau, Muton Kara in Debak today.
He also advised rural folks to plant Musang King due to the fruit's great export demand and value and the government would provide the planting materials.
The Sarawak government, he said, had also set aside RM60 million to provide fertiliser to oil palm and pepper farmers this year – where each farmer was entitled to 12 sacks for one type of crop.
"We are aware these farmers had been hit hard by the many restrictions and constraints caused by the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
Uggah, who is the Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Minister said the GPS government would not make promises that they could not deliver.
"We will keep on coming up with programmes and implementing them to improve the people's well-being, progress and prosperity."
"There will be some quarters and individuals out there, who will try to disunite the people by spreading lies against the government and its leaders. They will also be making all kinds of promises. Do not fall for them," he stressed.
At the function, Uggah also announced a RM500,000 grant to promote livestock rearing and rearing of fish in cages to those interested in Beting Maro.
He also approved a grant of RM10,000 to the Parent Teacher Association of SK Muton and RM2,000 each to 10 women bureaus.
