27.10.2021 (www.nst.com.my) - KUCHING: Bangladesh is looking forward to meeting Sarawak's needs for workers in various sectors, especially in the plantation sector.

Its Deputy High Commissioner Mohammad Khorshed A. Khastagir said Bangladesh and Sarawak had a lot of things to share in the agricultural sector.
Besides, he said, the Bangladesh High Commission was also ready to accommodate the sending of workers to Sarawak.
"To begin with, we can send about 3,000 workers. But (this) would be done on a government-to-government basis.
"In addition, Bangladesh is ready to comply with Malaysia's latest criteria on accepting foreign workers, where they must have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19," he said during a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah at Wisma Bapa here today.
Uggah, in his speech, said Sarawak needed a lot of workers particularly in the oil palm sector.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has brought in many unprecedented challenges to us including shortage of workers. We certainly welcome more workers to help in the harvesting.
"On the offer of workers, I will bring this to the Chief Minister (Datuk Abang Johari Openg) for further deliberation.
"Where foreign workers are concerned, the state will still need to go through the Foreign Ministry in Putrajaya as well."
Uggah said Sarawak also welcomed investors in livestock breeding and modern precision farming in its effort to be a net food and food products exporter by 2030.
"We are also interested in rice plantation and shipbuilding sectors among others," he added.
Bangladesh High Commission First Secretary Farid Ahmed and Sarawak Deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki were among those present.
