TNB Willing To Buy Biomass Energy For Up To 17 Sen Per Kwh

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is preparedto buy at the cost of up to 17 sen per kilowatt hour (kwH) of biomassenergy generated by players in the power-generation industry.Its chairman Datuk Dr Jamaludin Mohd Jarjis said that the price could bebetween 14 sen and 17 sen per kwH.

This would largely depend on the location and the distance of theproducer's power plant to TNB substations and other transmission costs.

The producers of biomass energy could be palm oil companies, independentpower producers (IPP) and new producers.

He said this to newsmen at a press conference held after a dialogue withthe Energy, Telecommunications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Amar LeoMoggie here on Tuesday. -- BERNAMA
