India Wants JV Partners For Oil Refinery

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's palm oil industry playerskeen on having a partnership in oil refinery, would have a goodopportunity to do so with a company from India which wants to foray intothe edible oil sector.

Royal Protein Ltd, which plans to set up an oil refinery with a capacityof 600-1,200 tonnes per day, wants to work with a foreign partner.

Its director Shabnam Memon said, "by footing on the strength of thegroup's expertise in non-edible oil sector, Royal Protein is all set toreap the potential market of edible oil in India."

The proposed project will have the advantages of proximity of port, taxholidays and other government benefits which will help the company tooffer its products at a very competitive rate to the market," she said inher "Project Proposal" at the 2001 International Palm Oil Congress (2001PIPOC) here which ended Wednesday.

The three-day congress was organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board(MPOB).

Memon said that the company has extensive business plan to capture thedomestic market by building up a brand name. The refined oil will bepacked and marketed through retail chain.

"Bulk supply requirements from large consumers for crude oil as well asedible oil will also be met," Memon said.

She said that the project would mainly focus on bridging the demand andsupply gap in the Indian edible oil market and streamline and assuresteady supply to the market by setting up a storage farm for the refinedand crude palm oil/soyabean oil/cottonseed oil.

The company also proposes to enter into the bio-technology projects, non-conventional energy projects through collaboration or joint venture withforeign partners, she said.
