New Delhi, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Edible oil imports in August this yearreached an all-time high of 654,000 tonnes in India.

Last year during August the country imported only 477,000 tonnes of edibleoil, India's premier news agency, PTI reported from Mumbai, crediting theinformation to a Solvent Extractors' Association release.

Total imports of edible oils in the first 10 months of the oil year(November 2000 to August 2001) stood at 4.15 million, showing a 19 percentjump over the previous year's figure of 3.47 million tonnes, the releasesaid.

The import of RBD palmolein fell to 1.39 million tonnes from 1.82 milliontonnes.

However, imports of crude palm oil (CPO) jumped from the last year's markof 564,000 tonnes to 1.28 million tonnes in the first 10 months of thecurrent year.

Imports of non-edible oils during the current oil year at 214,000 tonnesshowed a 13 percent rise over the previous year's level of 190,000 tonnes.-- BERNAMA
