The Star Online (17/01/2019) - JOHOR BARU: The state government is in discussion with Cyprus on the possibility of importing palm oil from Johor, says Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian.

He said Cyprus wanted to be a centre for palm oil within the Mediterranean region, and this was a good sign for the sector here.

"We are very excited with this new opportunity, as Cyprus has a very strong economy, where it is one of the emerging economies over there.

“We have been discussion in the last two or three days, and it is going pretty well,” Osman said when met after launching the soft launch of Johor International Islamic and Halal Festival 2019.

He added that Cyprus wanted to import palm oil and process it into various items, including soap and food products.

“On our part, we will be discussing the matter with JCorp and YPJ Holdings, as the two government-linked companies own the biggest palm oil plantations in the state,” he said.
