09.08.2018 (The Star Online) - KUALA LUMPUR: The following factors are likely to influence Malaysian palm oil futures and other vegetable oil markets on Thursday Aug 9.

FUNDAMENTALS

* Malaysian palm oil futures rose 1 percent by close of trade on Wednesday, reversing losses from earlier in the day to chart a fourth straight day of gains on expectations that Malaysia's crude palm oil export duty for September could be a zero rate.

* U.S. soybean and corn futures edged higher on Wednesday on declining crop conditions in the United States and forecasts for hot, dry weather in the western Midwest in the coming weeks.

* Oil prices slid about 3 percent on Wednesday as a trade dispute between the United States and China escalated further and after Chinese import data showed a slowdown in energy demand.

MARKET NEWS

* Asian shares were subdued on Thursday after a new round of tit-for-tat tariffs in the U.S.-Sino trade conflict torpedoed oil prices, while the Russian rouble tumbled as the U.S. slapped fresh sanctions on the country.
