TNB Will Buy Renewable Energy At Higher Price
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- To show its support to the government'saim to have five percent of the country's energy supply from renewableenergy (RE) by 2005, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) will buy the RE fromproducing companies at higher prices, said its chief executive officerDatuk Pian Sukro."One of the ways where we can support this aim, is to purchase such energyat a slightly higher price," he told reporter after officiating the TNBFamily Day here Sunday.
He said that to-date two of the private companies, which had been giventhe approval to implement the project, had signed Power Purchase Agreementwith TNB.
"With the agreement, TNB is committed to buy the energy generated from thethe producing companies after the programme," he said.
Apart from this, he said that TNB also played the role of evaluating theproject and assisting interested parties.
"We have a subsidiary which has the expertise in RE and we are prepared toprovide the necessary advice as a professional consultant," he said.
According to Pian, to-date TNB is in partnership with a private company ina RE project to obtain sources through gas generated from waste materialslike palm oil. -- BERNAMA
