24/10/2017 (The Star Online) - PEKAN: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wants more bio-gas power plants to be built in the state to benefit the people economically.

Having more of such plants, he said, would help resolve electricity and water issues in the state, especially in rural areas.

“It is not just bio-gas plants but also other green technology projects because Pahang is rich in natural resources and has potential to generate more renewable energy,” he said.

Tengku Abdullah said this during the launch of the bio-gas power plant owned by Cenergi SEA Sdn Bhd (Cenergi) and Tanah Makmur Berhad (TMB) in Sri Jelutung here.

Also present was Cenergi’s executive director Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.

The power plant, capable of generating 1.5 MW of electricity and operated by Metro Havana Sdn Bhd, is a joint venture between Cenergi and TMB.

Tengku Abdullah said the construction of the power plant would also reduce dependency on diesel engines at palm oil factories in the affected area.

TMB managing director Tengku Datuk Ahmad Faisal said the establishment of the green energy generating plant was carried out upon the advice of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board following the upgrading of the Sri Jelutong Palm Oil Mill Sdn Bhd’s palm oil processing plant that generated up to 45 tonnes per hour.

“The power plant uses an innovative ‘double-scrubber’ technology that enables methane emissions from palm oil factory effluents to be efficiently trapped to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide,” he said.

He said Cenergi and TMB would work together for the next 16 years to further develop green and renewable energy technologies in Pahang. — Bernama
