09/10/2017 (Bernama) - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the government has allocated RM700,000 to finance the construction of a bridge and the maintenance of access roads to farms in Pensiangan as at September this year.

He said from the total, RM188,000 was spent to maintain the road to Kampung Namadan, RM186,590 in Kampung Liposuk, RM167,298 in Kampung Magatang and RM121,250 for Kampung Johan Jaya.

"All these were carried out to facilitate farmers to bring their produce to the market in town," he said when speaking at the opening of Hello Sawit Pensiangan Council and Pusat Timbang Koperasi Penanam Sawit Mapan Keningau Berhad in Kampung Delayan Sook this evening.

Kurup said the government was always listening to the people especially on their agricultural needs and more allocations would be channeled to resolve the problems of the group.

Meanwhile Kurup who is also Pensiangan MP said the government through the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) was implementing various programmes to help private smallholders to help raise their income.

“MPOB has provided the Oil Palm Smallholders New Planting Scheme (TBSPK), Oil Palm Smallholders Replanting Scheme (TSSPK), Oil Palm Integrated Incentive Scheme (ITa) and the Oil Palm Livestock Integrated Incentive Scheme (ITe), he said.

According to him, an allocation of RM9,000 was provided by the government through MPOB to the farmers in replanting  and new planting with high quality seeds, fertilizer, cash incentive for site clearing and replanting as well as chemicals to control weeds and pests for two years. — Bernama
