Activities At Karachi and Qasim Ports

06/10/2017 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 146,058 tonnes of cargo comprising 111,573 tonnes of import cargo and 34,485 tonnes of export cargo including 5,596 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 111,573 tonnes comprised of 18,296 tonnes of containerised cargo; 402 tonnes of general cargo; 45,307 tonnes of bulk cargo: 34,090 tonnes of coal; 11,217 tonnes of fertilizer and 47,568 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 34,485 tonnes comprised of 26,659 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,826 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,126 tonnes of urea and 4,700 tonnes of talcum powder. As many as 5,596 containers comprising of 1,373 containers import and 4,223 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 424 of 20's and 424 of 40's loaded while 99 of 20's and 01 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 666 of 20's and 417 of 40's loaded containers while 537 of 20's and 1,093 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were six ships namely Kota Lahir, KMTC Dubai, Al Safat, Hyundai Splendor, Sea Crystal and Wish Way carrying containers, mogas and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were five vessels viz. OOCL California, Northern Dependant, High Power, Grand Dahlia and Wish Way carrying containers, oil tanker, vehicle and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Kota Kaya and Thassos carrying containers and coal respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely UAFL Zanzibar and MT Quetta carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

There were seven vessels Kota Layar, Hansa Duburg, CT Frontier, Maersk Tacoma, STI Expedite, Med Nordic and Baltic Cove carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and urea respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while five vessels viz. MOL Earnest, MSC Krittika, MT Karachi, Nord Larkspur and Oriental Protea carrying containers, oil tanker, mogas and chemical respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 202,288 tonnes comprising 163,813 tonnes of import cargo and 38,475 tonnes of export cargo including 4,109 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 163,813 tonnes includes 39,591 tonnes of furnace oil; 1,390 tonnes of palm oil; 8,600 tonnes of soyabean seeds; 5,100 tonnes of coal; 50,800 tonnes of LNG; 2,292 tonnes of project cargo; 16,444 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 39,596 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 38,475 tonnes includes 38,475 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 4,109 containers comprising of 2,084 containers import and 2,025 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. There were three ships namely CV Maersk Kensington, MV As Olivia and MV Do Dan Xia carrying containers, phosphoric acid and general cargo sailed out to sea on Wednesday afternoon.

A total number of twelve vessels viz. CV Express Black Sea, CV MSC Joanna, CV APL Charleston, CV Maersk Kensington, MV Da Dan Xia, MV Sinar Kutal, MV Three Saskias, MT Epic Sardinia, MV As Olivia, MT Al Jassasiya, MT Lion-M and MT Chemroad Haya currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, soyabean seeds, chemical, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as eight ships namely MV W Pacific, MV Necosia Pegasus, MT Black Pearl, MT Totonno Bottiglieri, MT Maistros, MT Mezaira, MT Margarita and MT Bahra carrying soyabean seeds, rapeseeds, LPG, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There was one vessel viz. MV Epic Sicily carrying chemical expected to take berth at Engro Vopak Terminal on Wednesday. There were ten ships namely CV Prosper, CV Hansa America, CV CMA CGM Narmada, CV San Francisco, CV Safmarine Nyassa, MV Achilleas-S, MV Ilaf, MV Epic Sicily, MT Tomson Gas and MT Gaslog Greece carrying containers, coal, chemical, LPG and LNG respectively due to arrive on Wednesday. There is one ship namely CV Mehuin carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
