23/11/2016 (Bernama) - The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) will rectify weaknesses in the Cooking Oil Stabilisation Scheme (COSS) as stated in the Auditor-General's Report.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said he would ensure the money allocated by the government for the scheme was well spent for the people.

"The ministry will ascertain that there is no misappropriation in oil subsidy," he told reporters after handing over cooperative development aid and revolving fund loan to Koperasi Parlimen Larut in Batu Kurau near here today.

The 2015 Series 2 Auditor-General's Report, which was tabled yesterday, stated that the government was forced to pay an additional RM2.92 million in subsidy due to weaknesses in the COSS management.

To avoid abuse and leakage in the distribution, it recommended that the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry, which is the implementor of COSS, to always monitor and regulate cooking oil.

However, the cabinet, at its meeting last Sept 21, agreed that MDTCC took over management of COSS, effective last Nov 1.
