11/11/2016 (Bernama) - The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism will revoke the licence of subsidised cooking oil packaging companies which failed to ensure adequate supply in the market.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh said inspection at palm oil mills found that supply was sufficient and that some packaging companies failed to get supply due to cash flow problem.

"The ministry will monitor the palm oil mills. If they cannot solve the shortage within a week, we will revoke their licence and give to those who can do the job," he told reporters after inspecting a palm oil mill, here today.

The ministry would review the cooking oil packaging companies to ensure that only those who are capable are appointed as the suppliers.

There are 252 packaging companies and 12 cooking oil mills nationwide. Some 50,000 tonnes of cooking oil is produced per month.

The ministry had inspected 28,963 premises nationwide since Oct 21 of which 34 cases were for offences related to hoarding of cooking oil.

Jamil said the cooking oil supply has recovered by 70 per cent and expect full recovery in one week.

"We are working hard to hunt down those who hoard the subsidised cooking oil thus causing a shortage in the market," he added.
