Palm Oil Downstream Products can Stabilise Palm Oil Prices
02/09/2016 (Bernama) - Palm oil downstream products can help stabilise the country’s palm oil prices, and thus, should be further commercialised, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Citing palm oil-based milk as an example, he said, the product had the potential to be exported overseas.
“We need to give more focus on the downstream industry along with the upstream industry,” Ismail Sabri told reporters after launching palm oil-based milk, a product by Kitchen Kingdom Sdn Bhd, in conjunction with Halal Fiesta Malaysia 2016 here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Kitchen Kingdom executive director Mizril Rishah Mustafar Kamal said the product, produced in collaboration with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, was available in the market since February this year.
“We are in the process of extending its shelf life to up to two years for overseas markets,” he said.
Mizril Rishah added the product would make a good substitute for coconut milk as it is cholesterol free, low in fat and twice as cheap.
