03/02/2016 (Bernama) - The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) is undertaking initiatives to help place the oil palm industry in a better position to meet the many challenges ahead.

Its Chairman, Datuk Lee Yeow Chor, said MPOC will continue its endeavours to reach palm oil buyers and consumers worldwide and play a strong supporting role for the Malaysian palm oil industry.

"This is being carried out through the flagship programmes including Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar (POTS), Customer Appreciation and Recognition Scheme (CARES) and Palm Oil Internet Seminars," he said.

Lee said this at the Reach and Reminds Of The Industry Seminar 2016 here today.

The text of his speech was read by MPOC Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Dr Yusof Basiron.

Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Amar Doulas Ugggah Embas, officiated the seminar.

Lee said there were major challenges due to the dramatic drop in crude oil prices which in turn has impacted most commodities, including palm oil.

"The POTS series had emerged as a major attraction, especially for overseas clients. The series proved to be a major catalyst in creating new markets while expanding the existing ones for Malaysia palm oil," he said.

He said in 2016 POTS will be held in India, Turkey, China and end with POTS Kuala Lumpur in October.

On CARES, he said, the programmes, which started in 2009, had proven to be a success to enable the development of active partnerships with major oils and fats businesses worldwide.

Lee said this year, MPOC will use major palm oil platform including the Palm and Lauric Oils Conference and Exhibition to further promote Malaysian palm oil among these global oils and fats players.

"This year should prove to be another challenging and exciting year for Malaysian palm oil industry and MPOC. Our marketing teams have identified regions that are likely to grow rapidly and allow us to increase exports of Malaysian palm oil," he said.
