01/02/2016 (Bernama) - Efforts at assisting smallholders will be among the issues to be discussed at the Council Of Palm Oil Producing Countries(CPOPC) meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Feb 4.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim said this is to ensure that the welfare and income of the oil palm smallholders in the country is not overlooked against the backdrop of the uncertain global economy.

"The government is always mindful of the welfare of the smallholders. If their welfare and income is looked into, it will benefit the country and also Felda," he told reporters at the UMNO Muar building here today.

Razali, whose portfolio covers Felda, was speaking after presenting school bags to 200 students from all over Muar and officiating the Program Bantuan Beg Sekolah Transformasi Bumiputera (Best) 2016.

Razali said both he and Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas would represent the government in the discussions in Jakarta.

Malaysia and Indonesia, the two largest palm oil exporters in the world, set up the CPOPC last year to strengthen cooperation and improve the welfare of smallholders.
