RSPO To Publish Maps Of Members' Oil Palm Concessions Worldwide
21/12/2015 (Bernama) -- The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) will publish digital maps of its members' oil palm concessions worldwide, except for Malaysia, to improve its monitoring and enforcement.
In a statement today, the RSPO said, this information would be available to the public in the second quarter of 2016 via the Global Forest Watch platform.
It said this was in response to the devastating land and forest fires taking place in South-East Asia every year, which caused irreversible damage to the region's primary forests, peatlands and biodiversity.
"The disclosure of RSPO members' concession maps is a vital step in creating an accurate, reliable, shared mapping and information system, which is recognised by all parties to ensure that land and forest fires are effectively combatted.
"RSPO uses an information technology platform, accessible at www.globalforestwatch.org, to monitor and report on suspected fires," it said.
