MEDAN, N. Sumatra, Jan 8 Asia Pulse - Indonesia's crude palm oil [CPO]exports in 2004 are predicted to reach 6.9 million tons, slightly higherthan those in 2003 when the figure was 6.5 million tons, chief of theIndonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) Derom Bangun said.
"Indonesia's CPO exports in 2004 are expected to increase to 6.9 milliontons compared to 6.5 million tons in 2003," Derom said here Wednesday
The exports, Derom said, would be propped up by higher demand during theperiod which is expected to increase by one million tons.
In addition, supply of vegetable oil instead of palm oil, especiallysoybean oil, since the past 12 months has declined due to lower productionin sever al producing countries.
According to Derom, Indonesia as the world's second largest palm oilproducer, planned to increase its palm oil production to 10.4 million tonsin 2004, compared to 9.9 million tons in the previous year.
Malaysia, the world's largest producer, is expected to increase itsproduction from 12.5 million tons to 13 million tons during the period.
Derom predicted that the CPO price including its oil and fat productsduring 2004 would be stable despite possible price fluctuations.
The CPO price cif Rotterdam this week ranged between US$510 and US$515 aton, higher than the price during the first week of January 2003 at US$415a ton.
The improved CPO price in international market, Derom said, has alsopropped up oil palm fruit (TBS) price in production centers in Indonesia.
Currently, the oil palm fruit price has reached Rp700 per kg, compared tothe price during the same period in 2003 which ranged between Rp450 andRp500 per kg.
"The increased TBS price is expected to encourage farmers to improve thequality of their plantations to yield fruits of better quality," Deromsaid.
