05/11/2015 (Ghana Broadcasting Corporation) - The Food and Drugs Authority has asked the Ghana School Feeding Programme to present their palm oil to the FDA for proper investigation before it is used.

Senior High Schools are also expected to do same to avoid any harmful effect that the products can have on consumers in schools.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Head of Food Safety and Management at the FDA, Maria Lovelace Johnson confirmed the directive saying a number of schools and palm oil consumers have already submitted the products to the FDA to test quality levels before they are consumed.

She said the FDA has detected that 98 percent of its findings on adulterated palm oil came from the Greater Accra Region.

Miss Lovelace Johnson said the FDA has adequate resources to ensure that adulterated products fade out of the country's markets.

She said the recalling exercise is a routine one and will focus on all products but this time the focus is on palm oil.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Relations at the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr Kofi Amponsah Bediako says the major problem the authority faces is the unwillingness of people to subject themselves to standards set.

According to him, manufacturers are well aware of measures involved in putting products on the market but would neglect it for the craze of making quick money.

This he says puts the health of the consumer at risk.
