23/10/2015 (Daily Times) - At the product launching ceremony of Altin Cooking Oil, Malaysia’s palm oil product, Consul General of Malaysia Ismail Mohamad Bkri on Thursday said that the consulate would continue to support and facilitate efforts to expand the presence of Malaysian products in Pakistan.

He said there was a room for improvement and strengthening the existing bilateral relations between Malaysia and Pakistan, especially in trade.

“Altin cooking oil is produced and packed in Malaysia. Altin’s presence in the local market provides better choices to the consumer to select high quality, safe and nutritious cooking oil. The consumers can be assured of the highest quality of the Malaysian palm oil, as stringent regulations and requirements are imposed on the palm oil industry in Malaysia to produce high quality products,” said Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Regional Director Fairuz Hidzir, who is stationed in Karachi.

He said Pakistan continues to be an important market for the Malaysian products, particularly palm oil, adding that Pakistan imported about 550,000 tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia so far in 2015, which was used primarily in the food sector.

Every year, he said several million tonnes of palm oil (especially palm olein) are used worldwide for frying because of the oil’s high oxidative stability, which produced high quality and tasty foods.

Consumer Association of Pakistan (CAP) President Kaukab Iqbal said that the consumers should avoid buying substandard or unhygienic products, as these products are dangerous and bad to health. He said that loose cooking oil is usually exposed to contamination and unhygienic handling. Therefore, he applauded MPOB and Altin Foods Company’s (AFC’s) initiative to introduce packed Malaysian palm oil in Pakistan as an excellent alternative to loose cooking oil that are common in the market.

At the launching ceremony, AFC was represented by its Managing Director Tariq Ikram Khan and Business Development Manager Rafique Khan. AFC also imports high quality breadcrumbs from Malaysia and it has excellent distribution network around Pakistan to supply and deliver food ingredients to hotel, restaurants and catering services.
