15/05/2015 (The Tide) - The President, Delta Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (DACCIMA), Mr Simon Asite, says more attention should be paid to cassava and palm oil production.

Asite made the call yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 2015 Delta Trade Exposition organised by the association in Asaba.

He said that the association had commenced the sensitisation of its members on the need to take advantage of developing cassava and palm oil in the state.

Asite also called on the people of the state to key into the initiative by developing cassava and palm oil from the grassroots to the international export platform.

He noted that this would help to create employment as well as generate more sources of revenue for the state and the country.

Asite also called on the state government to establish Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the three senatorial districts of the state.

He said that this would also help to alleviate the suffering of the people of the state.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to the state government to establish SMEs across the three senatorial districts of the state.

“Having SMEs in the three senatorial districts will help to engage the people, especially rural dwellers,” he said.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr Chris Ekiyor, said that the theme of the exposition, “Trade beyond Oil,” was timely.

Ekiyor assured the organised private sector of the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a private-sector driven economy.
