Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

17/04/2015 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 118,244 tonnes of cargo comprising 73,978 tonnes of import cargo and 44,266 tonnes of export cargo including 6,678 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 73,978 tonnes comprised of 36,457 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,354 tonnes of general cargo; 1,427 tonnes of soyabean meal and 19,740 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 44,266 tonnes comprised of 34,604 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,662 tonnes of bulk cargo; 1,128 tonnes of cement; 7,494 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 1,040 tonnes of rice.

As many as 6,678 containers comprising of 2,535 containers import and 4,143 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,096 of 20's and 476 of 40's loaded while 309 of 20's and 89 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 697 of 20's and 703 of 40's loaded containers while 822 of 20's and 609 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were ten ships namely KMTC Mumbai, YM Excellence, ER Helgoland, Bunga Lucerne, Ardmore Centurion, MT Quetta, Pretty Lamb, Tabernacle Prince, Hua Rong-3 and Ocean Skipper carrying containers, oil tankers, rice, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were five vessels viz. PAC Aries, Ever Radiant, Desh Rakshak, Pyxis Malou and Chipolbrok Moon carrying containers, oil tanker and project cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There was one ship namely Ever Radiant carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Captain Costas, Desh Rakshak and Pyxis Malou carrying containers and oil tankers are expected to sail on Friday.

There were three vessels viz. Lissy Schulte, APL Seattle and Tulip carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while three vessels viz. Sakaka, Alam Madu and Grand Vega carrying containers, cement and vehicle respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 121,574 tonnes comprising 100,465 tonnes of import cargo and 21,109 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,951 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 100,465 tonnes includes 38,440 tonnes of diesel oil; 15,475 tonnes of palm oil and 46,550 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,109 tonnes includes 21,109 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,951 containers comprising of 2,235 containers import and 1,716 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There was one ship namely CV CMA CGM Samson with containers sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while two ships namely CV Maersk Chicago and MT Al-Soor-II carrying containers and diesel oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels viz. CV Maersk Kolkata, CV Maersk Chicago, CV CMA CGM Samson, MT Horizon, MT Equisite and MT Al-Soor-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely CMA CGM Kingfish, Al-Mukhtara, Brizo and Da Tai carrying containers, furnace oil and general cargo respectively at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday.

There were three vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Kingfish, CV MSC Judith and MV Da Tai carrying containers and general cargo respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are no ships due to arrive on Thursday.
