Liberia: GVL Constructs Palm Mill

23/03/2015 (AllAfrica.com) - Southern Liberia first oil palm production plant is expected to be completed in Tarjuowon, Sinoe County, by 2016, according to Virgil Magee, Head of Communications of Golden Veroleum Liberia.

At a media gathering Thursday, Mr. Magee said palms production will begin by 2016. He said GVL cherishes its investment in Liberia and will do all it can to ensure a good working environment.

Mr. Magee told journalists that the company is not engaged in land grabbing, noting that land occupied was based on invitational communication to the company for onward operations.

He explained that the company currently has in its employ, 3,501 persons with over 2,000 of its workforce coming from Sinoe County.

The GVL Head of Communication said completion of the palm mail will lead to more jobs creation.

He disclosed that GVL currently occupies 10,000 hectares of land in areas of their operations with over 150 palm trees being developed on a hectare of land.

Mr. Magee also said the company plans to increase its workforce to 40,000.

According to Magee, over 1,000 new jobs are expected to be created during the year as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the people of Butaw.
