02/02/2015 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 165,474 tonnes of cargo comprising 128,345 tonnes of import cargo and 37,129 tonnes of export cargo including 9,128 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 128,345 tonnes comprised of 71,427 tonnes of containerised cargo and 56,918 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 37,129 tonnes comprised of 34,451 tonnes of containerised cargo; 267 tonnes of general cargo and 2,411 tonnes of rice. As many as 9,128 containers comprising of 5,124 containers import and 4,004 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,593 of 20's and 1,652 of 40's loaded while 21 of 20's and 103 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 758 of 20's and 471 of 40's loaded containers while 668 of 20's and 818 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely Ever Radiant, Captain Costas and MT Karachi carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. RHL Aqua, Silver Gertrude and Sea Breeze carrying containers, oil tanker and seeds respectively currently at the berths.

There were two ships namely RHL Aqua and Hyundai Colombo carrying containers sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Draco carrying rice is expected to sail on Saturday. There are four vessels viz. Commodore, Sima Prestige, Hanjin White and Bunga Lucerne carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 80,880 tonnes comprising 68,448 tonnes of import cargo and 12,432 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,654 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 68,448 tonnes includes 8,814 tonnes of diesel oil; 9,400 tonnes of edible oil; 8,920 tonnes of coal; 17,190 tonnes of canola seeds; 1,822 tonnes of chemical and 22,302 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 12,432 tonnes includes 12,432 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There were two ships namely CV NYK Furano and MV Yas with containers and chemical sailed out sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely CV MSC Judith carrying containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eight vessels viz. CV MSC Judith, CV NYK Furano, CV Nordic Hong Kong, MV Icarus, MV Nord Phoenix, MT Al-Soor-II, MT Yas and MT SC Taipei currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, canola seeds, chemical, diesel oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely Rotterdam, Epic St Gerce, CMA CGM Simba and Arietis carrying containers and furnace oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Friday. There were three vessels viz. CV Judith, CV Nordic Hong Kong and NYK Furano carrying containers took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal respectively on Thursday. There are two ships namely CV Puello and CV CMA CGM Simba carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Friday.
