Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports
20/01/2015 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 301,144 tonnes of cargo comprising 255,548 tonnes of import cargo and 45,596 tonnes of export cargo including 3,043 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 255,548 tonnes comprised of 52,351 tonnes of containerised cargo; 58,480 tonnes of general cargo; 34,424 tonnes of bulk cargo: 23,263 tonnes of coal; 11,161 tonnes of DAP and 110,293 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 45,596 tonnes comprised of 34,312 tonnes of containerised cargo; 792 tonnes of general cargo; 6,532 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,970 tonnes of cement; 4,562 tonnes of rice and 3,960 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,043 containers comprising of 1,578 containers import and 1,465 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 812 of 20's and 361 of 40's loaded while 4 of 20's and 20 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 541 of 20's and 266 of 40's loaded containers while 272 of 20's and 60 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were nine ships namely Hyundai Vancouver, Northern Guild, Deira, APL Guangzhou, BW Shinano, Ariane Makara, Al Mahboobah, Silver Hannah and SFL Hudson carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eleven vessels viz. Commodore, Hyundai Vancouver, KMTC Mumbai, Al Mahboobah, Urania, MT Karachi, MT Lahore, Huseyn Javid, Pacific Ace, Pacific Pride and Conti Flint carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely KMTC Mumbai, Mathawee Naree and Conti Flint carrying containers, DAP and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while two ships namely MT Karachi and MT Lahore carrying oil tankers are expected to sail on Tuesday.
There was one vessels viz. X-press Kailash carrying containers due to arrive on Monday, while five vessels viz. ER Helgoland, YM Portland, Kota Kaya, Torm Vita and BBC Texas carrying containers, mogas and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 85,827 tonnes comprising 59,132 tonnes of import cargo and 26,695 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,027 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The total import cargo of 59,132 tonnes includes 9,100 tonnes of palm oil; 12,977 tonnes of diesel oil; 5,310 tonnes of fertilizer; 927 tonnes of chemical and 30,818 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 26,695 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,027 containers comprising of 1,622 containers import and 1,405 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
There was one ship namely CV MSC Athos with containers sailed out sea on Monday morning, while three ships namely CV X-Press Kailash, CV K Phoenix and MV Venus Triumph carrying containers and general cargo are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eight vessels viz. CV X-Press Kailash, CV K Phoenix, CV MSC Athos, MV Ikan Prang, MV Sino-6, MT Bunga Angsana, MV Venus Triumph, and MT Boronia currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, chemical, fertilizer, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as three ships namely MSC Maureen, Safmarine Ngami and Ince Karadeniz carrying containers and rape seeds respectively are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Monday. There were two vessels viz. CV MSC Maureen and CV Safmarine Ngami carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Monday. There are two ships namely CV Al-Farhidi and CV CMA CGM Tosca carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday, while three ships namely CV CMA CGM Maupassant, CV Maersk Atlanta and BBC Texas carrying containers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
