01/12/2014 (The Sun Daily) - The government will continue to support the development of the agriculture sector to be the main driver of economy in Malaysia.

"Malaysia is in the right path in expanding its technology and innovation in agricultural technology and food agro," Muhyiddin said during the closing ceremony of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (Maha) 2014 at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) here.

"Malaysia has developed the agricultural technology and innovation that will carry the efforts of the farmers to have a better income," Muhyiddin said.

He added the average revenue from the commercial value of technology for every 10,000 farmers which are now working in the palm oil sector can rise up to RM5,000 each per month.

"Based on this fact, the government will continue to generate a conducive and responsive environment to create a continuous creative and innovative environment," Muhyiddin said.

"We used to question whether this sector can be expanded due to the fact that there is not enough young people who are interested in this sector. Today, the innovation of this sector has increased the interest of young people to learn about this sector," Muhyiddin said.

Muhyiddin also welcomed the effort in educating school children the techniques and technology in the agro-based industry to the students.

"If we ask the young people, especially in the city, most of them would not know how the agro based industry works. They would not know where the chickens come from, they could not recognize a durian tree, all they know is this products comes from a hypermarket," Muhyiddin said.
