Activity at Karachi & Qasim Ports

20/11/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 135,827 tonnes of cargo comprising 114,915 tonnes of import cargo and 20,912 tonnes of export cargo including 5,908 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 114,915 tonnes comprised of 42,053 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,918 tonnes of general cargo; 9,634 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,080 tonnes of wheat; 3,523 tonnes of soybean meal; 4,031 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 51,310 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 20,912 tonnes comprised of 20,792 tonnes of containerised cargo and 120 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 5,908 containers comprising 3,489 containers import and 2,419 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 901 of 20's and 1,100 of 40's loaded while 224 of 20's and 82 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 590 of 20's and 324 of 40's loaded containers while 25 of 20's and 578 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely Sima Prestige, ACX Crystal, Chemroute Sun and Grand Cosmos carrying containers, oil tanker and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Kota Kamil, PAC Aries, Ever Radient, Japan, ER Helgoland and Chemroute Sun carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths.

There were three ships namely Kota Kamil, ER Helgoland and Formosa Falcon carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely Ever Radient, Songa Eagle and Pacific Vision carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There are six vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, APL Seattle, Makita, Hyundai Bangkok, MT Lahore and Ashahda carrying containers and oil tankers respectively due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 108,032 tonnes comprising 81,224 tonnes of import cargo and 26,808 export cargo inclusive 2,108 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 81,224 tonnes includes 46,378 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,655 tonnes of palm oil; 1,100 tonnes of sunflower seeds; 6,469 tonnes of wheat and 20,622 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 26,808 tonnes includes 3,162 tonnes of cement and 23,646 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were two ships namely CV Fowairet and MV Flag Mersindi with containers and wheat sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while three ships namely CV Maersk Kolkata, MT Classy Victory and MT SC Dong Hai carrying containers, gas oil and edible oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight vessels viz. CV Maersk Kolkata, CV Fowairet, Amber Champion, MV Ikan Prang, MV Sea Luck-II, MV Flag Mersindi, MT Classy Victory and MT SC Dong Hai currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, sunflower seeds, wheat, diesel oil and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as six ships namely Maersk Atlanta, CMA CGM Lamartine, Ocean Lion, Verginia, Classy Victoria, Qem Star and Feng Hai-33 with containers, rapeseed, wheat, chemical and edible oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were three vessels with containers and cement took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are five ships namely CV Maersk Atlanta, CV CMA CGM Lamartine, MV Verginia, MV Qem Star and MT Feng Hai-33 with containers, wheat, chemical and edible oil due to arrive on Wednesday.
