17/11/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 149,689 tonnes of cargo comprising 124,345 tonnes of import cargo and 25,344 tonnes of export cargo including 5,025 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 124,345 tonnes comprised of 47,207 tonnes of containerised cargo; 47,763 tonnes of bulk cargo: 25,700 tonnes of coal; 8,921 tonnes of wheat; 12,127 tonnes of DAP; 1,015 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 29,375 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 25,344 tonnes comprised of 19,815 tonnes of containerised cargo; 158 tonnes of general cargo and 5,371 tonnes of marble stone. As many as 5,025 containers comprising 3,183 containers import and 1,842 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,233 of 20's and 929 of 40's loaded while 54 of 20's and 19 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 372 of 20's and 421 of 40's loaded containers while 222 of 20's and 203 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were three ships namely OEL Trust, PAC Aries and Wawasan Ruby carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. Xin Huang Fu, APL Guangzhou, RHL Felicitas, AS Carelia, BW Kronborg, Chang Hang Run and Thorco Ambition carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were four ships namely X-Press Euphrates, YM New Jersey, Klima and Thorco Ambition carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely RHL Felicitas, BW Kronborg and Swan carrying containers, oil tanker and DAP respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There was one vessel viz. Altonia carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. Sakaka, Hyundai Busan, DL Ace and Ocean Star-1 carrying containers and oil tankers respectively due to arrive on Friday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 166,376 tonnes comprising 105,139 tonnes of import cargo and 61,237 export cargo inclusive 3,455 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 105,139 tonnes includes 47,920 tonnes of diesel oil; 14,471 tonnes of edible oil; 1,033 tonnes of sunflower seeds; 9,780 tonnes of wheat; 5,698 tonnes of chemical; 625 tonnes of general cargo and 25,612 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 61,237 tonnes includes 21,204 tonnes of cement and 40,033 tonnes of containerised cargo.
As many as 3,455 containers comprising 1,348 containers import and 2,107 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There was one ship namely MV Finja with general cargo sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely CV Mearsk Hartfort and CV CMA CGM Corneille carrying containers are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of ten vessels viz. CV Mearsk Hartfort, CV CMA CGM Corneille, MV Filia Joy, MV Ikan Prang, MV Finja, MV Sea Luck-II, MV Flag Mersindi, MT Horizon, MV Stolt Courege and MT Al-Soor-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, general cargo, sunflower seeds, wheat, palm oil, chemical and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as seven ships namely Lily Schulte, Ocean Lion, Great Star, SC Dong Hai, Prime Royal, Vergina and BBC Washington with containers, rapeseed, palm oil, wheat and general cargo are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz. CV Saigon Express, CV Lily Schulte, CV Tabea and BBC Washington with containers and general cargo expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Thursday. There is one ship namely CV Delmas Keta with containers due to arrive on Friday, while another ship namely CV Maule with containers is due to arrive on Saturday.
