17/10/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 108,447 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,709 tonnes of import cargo and 14,738 tonnes of export cargo including 3,215 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 93,709 tonnes comprised of 22,427 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7 tonnes of general cargo; 50,627 tonnes of bulk cargo: 29,695 tonnes of coal; 9,688 tonnes of wheat; 11,244 tonnes of DAP and 20,648 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 14,738 tonnes comprised of 13,407 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,331 tonnes of cement. As many as 3,215 containers comprising 1,219 containers import and 1,996 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 843 of 20's and 188 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 304 of 20's and 256 of 40's loaded containers while 322 of 20's and 429 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Posen, CS Tina, PAC Aries, Bon Atlantico and El Gurdabia carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There was one vessel viz. Histria Agata carrying oil tanker currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Japan, Ras Ghumays, Ioannis-D carrying containers, wheat and DAP respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while another ship namely Hyundai Singapore carrying containers is expected to sail on Thursday. There are eight vessels viz. APL Chicago, Al Tonia, Cosco Kobe, MT Karachi, Songa Sapphire, Bui Lu Zuo, BW Kronborg and Da Zhi carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 72,083 tonnes comprising 38,359 tonnes of import cargo and 33,724 export cargo inclusive 3,938 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 38,359 tonnes includes 4,000 tonnes of diesel oil; 9,820 tonnes of palm oil; 8,500 tonnes of rape seed; 2,503 tonnes of LPG and 13,536 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 33,724 tonnes includes 9,096 tonnes of cement; 1,329 tonnes of sand and 23,299 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There was one ship namely MT Al Soor-II with diesel oil sailed out sea during last 24 hour, while five ships namely CV CMA CGM Mollere, CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Al-Rawdah, MV Cailan-4 and MT Oceanus-9 with containers, sand and LPG are expected to sail on Wednesday. A total number of ten vessels viz. CV Al-Rawdah, CV CMA CGM Mollere, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV KN Forest, MV Cailan-4, MT Oceanus-9, MT Bum Chin, MT Rosco Poplar, MT Al-Soor-II and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey currently occupied berths to load/offload sand containers, cement, sand, rape seed, palm oil, diesel oil and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely CMA CGM Berlioz, Feng Hai-36 and Elpida GR with containers, palm oil and cement are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were three vessels carrying containers, palm oil and LPG took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are three ships namely CV CMA CGM Berlioz, CV Maersk Denver and MV Elpida GR with containers and cement due to arrive on Wednesday.
