Activity at Karachi & Qasim Ports

15/10/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 171,011 tonnes of cargo comprising 157,952 tonnes of import cargo and 13,059 tonnes of export cargo including 5,042 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 157,952 tonnes comprised of 41,279 tonnes of containerised cargo; 802 tonnes of general cargo; 52,118 tonnes of bulk cargo: 30,909 tonnes of coal; 8,848 tonnes of wheat; 12,361 tonnes of DAP and 63,753 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 13,059 tonnes comprised of 12,141 tonnes of containerised cargo and 918 tonnes of cement. As many as 5,042 containers comprising 2,983 containers import and 2,059 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 741 of 20's and 1,119 of 40's loaded while 4 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 159 of 20's and 351 of 40's loaded containers while 432 of 20's and 383 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven ships namely OEL Trust, MOL Distinction, HS Marco Polo, Pretty World, Maria Princess, Star Masaya and Calmy Coral carrying containers, oil tankers, fertilizer and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Hyundai Singapore, Posen, CS Tina, PAC Aries, Folk Beauty and Bon Atlantico carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.

There were four ships namely Posen, CS Tina, El Gurdabia and Bon Atlantico carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while four ships namely Folk Beauty, Ras Ghumays, Ioannis and Yasa Gulten carrying oil tanker, wheat, DAP and coal respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There are one vessel viz.Ever Radiant carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 130,797 tonnes comprising 95,945 tonnes of import cargo and 34,852 export cargo inclusive 3,098 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 95,945 tonnes includes 48,561 tonnes of diesel oil; 2,600 tonnes of edible oil; 4,200 tonnes of rape seed and 40,584 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 34,852 tonnes includes 13,699 tonnes of cement; 2,875 tonnes of sand and 18,278 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,098 containers comprising 2,136 containers import and 962 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There were two ships namely CV SCT Zurich and MT Feng Hai-36 with containers and edible oil sailed out sea on Tuesday morning, while two more ships namely MV Cailan-4 and MT Al Soor-II with sand and diesel oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight vessels viz. CV SCT Zurich, CV CMA CGM Mollere, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV KN Forest, MV Cailan-4, MV Rosco Poplar, MT Feng Hai-36 and MT Al-Soor-II, currently occupied berths to load/offload sand containers, cement, sand, rape seed, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as four ships namely Al Rawdah, Bum Chin, Feng Hai-36 and Ocean Us-9 with containers, palm oil and LPG are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There were two vessel viz. CV Al Rawdah and MT Bum Chin carrying containers and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Tuesday.
