Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

13/09/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 95,651 tonnes of cargo comprising 68,520 tonnes of import cargo and 27,131 tonnes of export cargo including 4,248 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 68,520 tonnes comprised of 21,758 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,193 tonnes of general cargo; 45,569 tonnes of bulk cargo: 29,064 tonnes of coal; 6,393 tonnes of DAP; 8,379 tonnes of soyabean meal and 1,733 tonnes of rape seed.

The total export cargo of 27,131 tonnes comprised of 27,003 tonnes of containerised cargo; 128 tonnes of general cargo and 1,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,248 containers comprising 1,375 containers import and 2,873 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 717 of 20's and 314 of 40's loaded while 2 of 20's and 14 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 777 of 20's and 378 of 40's loaded containers while 404 of 20's and 468 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were two ships namely MOL Direction and Pona carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. Kota Karim, Fortune Glory and Promise-1 carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Hanjin Indigo, Kota Karim, Elina-B and Atlas Explorer carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely Pistis carrying DAP is expected to sail on Friday. There were four vessels viz. Ever Radiant, Northern Guild, APL Guangzhou and MT Quetta carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz. UASC Ajman, PAC Aries, Hyundai Jakarta, Tradewind, Baltic Mercur, Soleil, New Legend Sapphire and ISE carrying containers, oil tanker, vehicles, rock phosphate and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 105,387 tonnes comprising 80,088 tonnes of import cargo and 25,299 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,576 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 80,088 tonnes includes 22,701 tonnes of diesel oil; 7,000 tonnes of palm oil; 13,175 tonnes of coal; 9,467 tonnes of rape seed; 3,900 tonnes of chemical and 23,845 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 25,299 tonnes includes 200 tonnes of cement and 25,099 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,576 containers comprising 1,255 containers import and 1,321 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There was one ship namely CV CMA CGM Straus with containers sailed out sea on Thursday morning, while three ships namely CV Maersk Hartford, MV Atlantic Glory and MT Al-Soor-II with containers, chemical and diesel oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eight vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Straus, CV Maersk Hartford, MV Georglanna Bo, MV Mega Lohari, MV DL Dahlia, MT Atlantic Glory, MT Sea Harvest and MT Al-Soor-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, rape seed, coal, chemical, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seven ships namely New Delhi Express, Maersk Kingston, Norgas Orinda, MT Lito, Frede Rike Selmer, Ever Mighty and Aritis with containers, chemical, wheat, coal and furnace oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were five vessels viz. CV New Delhi Express, CV Maersk Kingston, CV Spirit of Mumbai, MV Norgas Orinda and MT Aritis carrying containers, chemical and furnace oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday. There is one ship namely CV Rio Madeira with containers due to arrive on Friday.
