Malaysia's Palm Oil Exports To China In Jan-April 2014 Hit 1.3 Million Tonnes

15/09/2014 (Bernama) - Malaysia exported a total of 1.3 million tonnes of palm oil and palm-based products valued at RM3.5 million to China in the period of January to April 2014.

The total exports for the first four months of the year dropped by 4.6 per cent from 1.6 million tonnes registered in the same period last year, according to data showed by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Last year, Malaysia's exports of palm oil and palm-based products to China were valued at RM11.3 billion. China accounted for 20.4 per cent of total global exports of Malaysian palm oil in 2013.

Meanwhile, China imported timber and timber products valued at RM156.6 million for the period of January to March 2014, an increase of 0.14 per cent compared to the same period last year, the data showed.

In 2013, Malaysia's exports of timber and timber products to China were valued at RM736.2 million, an increase of 8.4 per cent from RM679 million in 2012, while China's timber and timber products exports to Malaysia, valued at RM614.1 million, fell 0.2 per cent from 2012's RM615.6 million.

For rubber and rubber products, the data showed in January-March period this year, Malaysia's total exports to China, valued at RM1.9 billion, dropped 19.5 per cent from RM2.3 billion in the corresponding period in 2013.

During the same period, Malaysia's total imports of rubber and rubber products from China amounted to RM226 million, an increase of 14.5 per cent from RM198 million in the same period last year.

During the first three months of the year, Malaysia's export value of cocoa products stood at RM57.4 million, a drop of 13.2 per cent from RM66.1 million in the corresponding period in 2013.

For the period of January to March of the year, the total value of cocoa products imported from China was RM11.9 million, up 77.6 per cent from RM6.7 million in the same period of last year.

For pepper products, the data showed in the period of January to March 2014, exports to China were 654.94 tonnes valued at RM19.07 million, an increase of 1733.65 per cent from RM1.04 million in the same period a year earlier.

During the same period, imports of pepper products from China were valued at RM620,000.
