Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

22/08/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 157,963 tonnes of cargo comprising 123,646 tonnes of import cargo and 34,317 tonnes of export cargo including 2,905 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 123,646 tonnes comprised of 27,742 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,038 tonnes of bulk cargo: 19,000 tonnes of coal; 2,918 tonnes of soyabean meal; 120 tonnes of DAP and 73,866 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 34,317 tonnes comprised of 24,313 tonnes of containerised cargo; 272 tonnes of general cargo; 8,732 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,905 containers comprising 859 containers import and 2,046 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 777 of 20's and 41 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 678 of 20's and 360 of 40's loaded containers while 296 of 20's and 176 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were eight ships namely MOL Direction, RHL Aqua, Posen, YM New Jersey, CSC Crystal, El-Gurdabia, Nord Copenhagen and Development Way carrying containers, oil tankers, fertilizer and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. Posen, Kota Kasturi, Ikan Sembak and King Fraser carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were three ships namely Chrisopigi Lady, Blue Balance and Somerset carrying oil tankers and cement respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday. There were two vessels viz. Songa Hawk and Bunga Alamanda carrying mogas and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while four vessels viz. APL Sokhna, Xin Huang Pu, Intisar and Rinia carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 61,468 tonnes comprising 51,569 tonnes of import cargo and 9,899 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 917 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 51,569 tonnes includes 4,000 tonnes of furnace oil; 5,778 tonnes of diesel oil; 7,200 tonnes of palm oil; 5,770 tonnes of canola seed; 11,741 tonnes of iron ore; 9,556 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 7,524 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 9,899 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 917 containers comprising 396 containers import and 521 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There was one ship namely CV Al-Farahdi with containers sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely MT Hong Hai-36 with edible oil is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz. CV Al-Farahdi, MV Glovanni Botigieri, MV Maricana, MT Golden Gate Park, MT Hong Hai-36, MT Anema-e-Core and MT Al-Salam-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, canola seed, iron ore, phosphoric acid, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seven ships namely CMA CGM Berloiz, Development Way, Vinalines Global, Ince Ilgaz, STX Fastern, Taurus and Fenh Hai-10 with containers, project cargo, rapeseed, chemical, furnace oil and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Berloiz, CV Sealand Washington, CV Maersk Memphis and MT Fenh Hai-10 with containers and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.
