Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

21/08/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 144,255 tonnes of cargo comprising 94,245 tonnes of import cargo and 50,010 tonnes of export cargo including 5,870 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 94,245 tonnes comprised of 33,012 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,401 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,549 tonnes of soyabean meal; 4,852 tonnes of DAP and 52,832 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 50,010 tonnes comprised of 16,869 tonnes of containerised cargo; 271 tonnes of general cargo; 18,870 tonnes of bulk cargo: 9,046 tonnes of cement; 9,824 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 14,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,870 containers comprising 2,364 containers import and 3,506 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 902 of 20's and 667 40's loaded while 18 of 20's and 55 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 301 of 20's and 406 of 40's loaded containers while 685 of 20's and 854 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Hanjin White, Talassa, Al-Mahboobah, Aruna ECE and Universal Barcelona carrying containers, chemical, cement and fertilizer respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. MOL Direction, RHL Aqua, ShengShi-2, Bao Ma-222, Dong Hai Jun-7001, CSC Crystal and El-Gurdabia carrying containers, barge, dredger and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.

There were seven ships namely Posen, YM New Jersey, MOL Direction, RHL Aqua, CSC Crystal, Nord Copenhagen and Development Way carrying containers, oil tanker, DAP and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while three ships namely Chrisopigi Lady, El Gurdabia and Somerset carrying oil tankers and cement are expected to sail on Wednesday.

There were two vessels viz. Kota Kasturi and King Fraser carrying containers and talcum powder respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while seven vessels viz. Northern Prelude, Niara, Songa Hawk, Al-Yarmouk, Navios Astra, Rinia and Trina carrying containers, mogas, oil tanker, rock phosphate, coal and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 82,618 tonnes comprising 73,764 tonnes of import cargo and 8,854 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,449 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 73,764 tonnes includes 46,871 tonnes of diesel oil; 5,836 tonnes of canola seed; 2,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 19,057 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 8,854 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 1,449 containers comprising 1,003 containers import and 446 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

There was one ship namely CV Cape Melville with containers sailed out sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely MT Al-Salam-II with oil tanker is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of six vessels viz. CV Posen, CV Cape Melville, MV Glovanni Botigieri, MV Maricana, MV Argent Aster and MT Al-Salam-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, canola seed, iron ore, phosphoric acid and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely Golden Gate Park, Al-Farahdi, Vinalines Global, Ince Ilgaz and Hong Hai-36 with containers, rapeseed and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz. CV Golden Gate Park, CV Al-Farahdi, Hong Hai-36 and Anema-e-Core with containers, palm oil and chemical expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Tuesday.
